What happens when I return my SIXT+ car subscription vehicle?

Vehicle return

Want to return your SIXT+ car? Here you’ll find everything you need to know about the return process: when and where to drop off your vehicle, what’s included, and what happens next. Easy, transparent, and all in one place.

When you return your SIXT+ car subscription vehicle, a SIXT team member will inspect it alongside you and prepare a return report — so the process is clear and fair for everyone.

How the return inspection works

  1. Return the vehicle to your SIXT location during business hours — even if a key drop box is available.
  2. Allow at least 30 minutes for a joint inspection with a SIXT team member.
  3. The vehicle's condition is compared against the original handover report and documented with photos.
  4. You and the SIXT team member sign off on the return report together.

If you return the vehicle outside business hours and use the key drop box, the inspection will take place without you present.

Do I need to clean the vehicle first?

A full, thorough clean isn't required. That said, the vehicle should not be excessively dirty — heavy soiling may result in an additional cleaning fee.

What happens if damage is found?

For each instance of damage, you're responsible for costs up to your agreed maximum deductible. Our claims team will contact you by email to ask for your account of the incident, which you can submit by mail, fax, or email. Once the extent of the damage and the circumstances have been assessed, we'll let you know how to proceed. Your credit card will not be charged at the time of return, and no security deposit will be withheld — damage claims are handled separately.
