What do the different line items on my SIXT invoice mean?

Understanding the final invoice

Your invoice includes all charges associated with your rental, including the items selected at pickup as well as any additional charges that may arise after the vehicle is returned.

Reviewing your invoice alongside your rental agreement is the easiest way to understand each charge.

Charges Included in Your Rental Agreement - These are items agreed upon when the rental was created:

  • Rental Charges: Based on the rate, vehicle category, and rental duration selected at the time of booking

  • Additional Rental Days: If your rental duration extends beyond a weekly or monthly rate period, any remaining days may be billed separately at the applicable daily rate

  • Protection Products: Optional protection packages selected during your rental, such as damage protection, theft protection, roadside assistance, or reduced deductibles

  • Add-ons and Extras: Optional services and equipment, such as additional drivers, child seats, navigation devices, or seasonal equipment

  • One-Way Fee: A charge that may apply when the vehicle is returned to a different location than originally scheduled

Charges That May Be Added After Return - Some charges can only be calculated after the vehicle is returned and inspected:

  • Additional Mileage: Charges for mileage exceeding the amount included in your rental agreement, where applicable

  • Fuel or Charging Fees: Charges that may apply if the vehicle is returned with less fuel or battery charge than required under the rental agreement

  • AdBlue Charges: Applicable to certain diesel vehicles where usage is calculated based on distance driven

  • Late Return Charges: Fees that may apply when the vehicle is returned later than agreed

  • Location Change Fees: Charges that may apply if the vehicle is returned to a different location without prior arrangement

  • Taxes and Location-Specific Fees

Depending on the rental location, your invoice may also include:

  • Registration or road-use fees

  • Airport, train station, or location surcharges

  • Applicable taxes and government-imposed fees

Please note that when additional rental charges are added after return, certain taxes and surcharges may also increase because they are calculated as a percentage of the total rental cost.

Understanding Rental Days vs. Additional Days - You may notice separate line items for rental days and additional days on your invoice.

  • Rental Days: Days covered under a weekly or monthly rate

  • Additional Days: Remaining days billed at the applicable daily rate

This billing structure helps ensure you receive the most economical rate available based on your rental duration.

Example: 8-day rental

  • Weekly rate (7 days): $280

  • Additional day (1 day): $55

  • Total for 8 rental days: $335

In this example, combining rate structures results in a lower overall cost than billing all eight days at the daily rate.

Good to Know: Additional days are not a penalty or surcharge. They simply reflect the pricing structure used to calculate the most favorable rental rate.

Note: Traffic or parking violations, Toll-related charges, Damage claims and associated fees are not billed through the final invoice but separately – you may receive a separate notice from SIXT.

Next Steps

For the most accurate review, compare your final invoice with your rental agreement. Any charges that do not appear on the rental agreement typically reflect services, usage, or fees that were assessed after the vehicle was returned.
